1. Acceptance and eligibility
By using this site, joining a Vocaic Talk room, using Vocaic Desk or Studio, watching the films, following the narrated guide, or joining the waitlist, you accept these Terms and the Acceptable Use Policy. The site is intended for people aged 18 or older. If you do not agree, do not use the site or submit a form.
2. What Vocaic is today
Vocaic is mixed-mode communication: every participant keeps their own mode (voice or text), language, English accent and voice, and receives everyone else in their own mode. The products marked Live work in this web app today: Vocaic Talk (multi-device conversation rooms), Vocaic Desk (one-device face-to-face) and Vocaic Studio (the Accent Studio, Translate, Dictate and the Studio tools). Features marked Live preview (such as Vocaic Listen, Ava, the developer API, the agent builder and songs with vocals) work today but are still changing. Vocaic can also be installed from the browser as an app on computers and phones. Features marked Building or Vision (such as app-store apps, meeting-platform integrations, phone calling and in-car driving mode) are development targets. They are not promises of delivery, timing, performance or availability.
3. No accounts
Vocaic does not offer user accounts, passwords or logins. Talk rooms are reached through a shared link and code; the waitlist and the investor room record a submission but do not create an account you sign in to. Because there is no login, keep any room link or investor link private to the people you intend to include.
4. Your content and the limited licence Vocaic needs
You keep all rights in the messages, audio and text you provide. To operate the features you use, you grant Vocaic a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process that content only as needed to run the service: to transcribe your speech, translate your words, synthesize the delivery voice, and deliver each message to the other participants in a room in their chosen mode, language and accent. This licence lasts only as long as the content is retained for that purpose (see the Privacy Notice) and grants no right to use your content to build voice clones or to train models. Submit only content you are entitled to share.
5. Voice and AI rules
Delivery voices, the films’ narration and the guide narrator are AI-generated Vocaic voices; they are never cloned from users. The Accent Studio changes only the delivery of your own words, never their meaning. You must not use Vocaic to deceptively impersonate a real person, or to re-voice or record another person without the consent the law requires. Voices you publish to the Voice library must not claim to be, or be presented as, a real person. If you build an agent, you are responsible for its instructions and knowledge and for where you embed it, and you must not present it as a human. The AI and voice notice explains exactly which features produce AI speech and how transcription and translation work.
6. Acceptable use
Your use of the site and products is subject to the Acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits unlawful, harmful, deceptive and abusive activity, and forbids safety-critical reliance. Do not disrupt the service, bypass access controls, introduce harmful code, scrape at abusive scale, or abuse the rate limits described in the Security page.
7. Service providers
Some features depend on service providers listed on the Subprocessors page. Translation uses Amazon Translate (Amazon Web Services) and, for languages it does not cover, MyMemory (Translated srl). Hosting and delivery use Amazon Web Services. Built-in live speech recognition uses your browser vendor under that vendor’s terms; Vocaic's on-device recognition is used when built-in recognition is unavailable. Availability, quality and permissions vary by service and device, and some features require microphone access.
8. Developer API
Vocaic offers a developer API as a live preview: message delivery and replies, speech, translation, voices and usage endpoints, signed webhooks, the agent builder with its embeddable widget, and the Read aloud embed. You create one or more developer keys through the console on the developers page. A key is a credential: keep it secret, do not embed it in client-side code you ship to end users, and treat any request made with it as made by you. You are responsible for all activity under your keys. You may use the API only to deliver messages to people who expect them and to process their replies, and you must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy; do not use it to send unsolicited bulk messages, to impersonate a person, or to re-voice or record anyone without the consent the law requires. The API is rate-limited (currently 60 requests per minute and 5000 per day for each key, up to 10 recipients per delivery, and a shared daily cap); limits may change. Delivered audio is addressed by an unguessable link and is deleted after 24 hours. The API is a preview with no service-level agreement and no guarantee of availability, latency or correctness. Vocaic may revoke a key, change the interface, or withdraw the API at any time.
Integrations (live preview). If you connect your own Slack, WhatsApp Business, Telegram or Discord app, or your own Alexa skill, to Vocaic, you confirm that you may do so under that platform’s terms, and you are responsible for telling the people in your workspace, chats or home and for any consent that the platform’s rules or the law require (for example WhatsApp Business messaging rules). Vocaic stores your keys encrypted, uses them only to serve that connection, and deletes them, with the member preferences, when you disconnect. Do not use an integration to send unsolicited messages.
9. Beta, availability and changes
The products are early and provided on a best-effort basis. Vocaic may add, change, suspend or remove features, rooms, demos or documents at any time, and does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. The waitlist registers interest only; it does not create an account, reserve access, establish priority, or guarantee contact.
10. Suspension and termination
Vocaic may suspend or end your access to the site or any feature if you breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or where needed to protect the service or other people. You may stop using the site at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive (content licence limits, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity and governing law) survive termination.
11. Copyright complaints
If you believe content available through the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to agarw574@purdue.edu that identifies the work, identifies the material and its location, gives your contact details, and includes a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized and that the information in your notice is accurate. Vocaic will respond to valid notices as required by applicable law.
12. Disclaimers
The site and products are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. Vocaic does not warrant uninterrupted service, perfect transcripts, accurate translation, voice fidelity, or suitability for any particular purpose or for safety-critical decisions. Machine translation and speech recognition can be wrong; a readable text version is always kept.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Vocaic is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from the site or products. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including certain mandatory consumer protections where you live.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify Vocaic against claims by others arising from your unlawful use of the site or products, your breach of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or content you provide that you were not entitled to share.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the place where Vocaic is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and without limiting mandatory consumer-protection rights that apply where you live. Vocaic is a pre-incorporation project; when its legal entity, home jurisdiction and registered address are established, this section and the contact details will be updated to name them.
16. Export and sanctions
You may not use the site or products in violation of applicable export-control or sanctions laws, and you confirm you are not located in, or acting on behalf of, a country or party subject to such restrictions that would make your use unlawful.
17. General terms
These Terms, together with the policies they link to, are the entire agreement between you and Vocaic about the site and products. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. You may not assign these Terms; Vocaic may assign them to a successor of the project or business. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
18. Changes and contact
These Terms may change as the product and legal structure develop; the effective date and version at the top of this page will be updated. Questions can be sent to agarw574@purdue.edu.
